Country Pickins ---- Burt Everett Jan 12 2005

"I have often marveled at the wealth of new Australian talent, which just keeps on emerging, and with the new year comes yet another new voice, which is worth making note of for further recognition.

The young lady in question was born in north Queensland, but now calls South Australia's Pinnaroo home. Her name is Penny Burke, but she records as Penny. I got her debut four track CD in the mail today, and noted that the first track was, "Local Pub".

I visualized a song that was a cross between "Pub With No Beer", and "Duncan", but such was not the case. Instead I heard a top Country Rock number more akin to something you would hear from the Dixie Chicks'. This is the track which has been "lifted" for airplay, but it was the second track, "I Had a Dream", that really grabbed my attention. A beautiful bluesy track, it illustrated the other side of Penny.

The other two tracks, "It's You", and, "Ringer's Daughter", keep up the high standard already set on a mini album that will very likely prove to be a springboard to greater things for "Penny" Another pleasing point about this one is the absence of the Oh so false American twang, which has found it's way into so many Australian female country voices, (and male voices as well)".
